What are the recommended Torque settings and screw sizes?
M3 and M4 screws are provided with your sight and if you are not sure which is which, an easy way to tell is through measurement.
The M3 measures 3mm in Diameter.
The M4 measures 4mm in Diameter.
It is recommended that a small dab of medium strength thread lock (such as Loctite 243 or 248) is used on all fixing screws and sufficient drying time is allowed before zeroing the sight.
Recommended screw torques:
M3 Screw Torque – 0.80nm (8 inch-lbs to foot-lbs)
M4 Screw Torque – 2nm (17.7 inch-lbs to foot-lbs)
You can find this information on our ‘Manuals and Support’ page
Where can I get more battery stickers from/ what are they used for?
All batteries vary in height and the sticker ensures connection is made. It also helps prevent metal to metal contact from the slide to battery which can cause it to short out.
All sights are provided with 2 battery stickers in the box.

How do I zero my sight?
When zeroing your sight, attention and care must be paid to
the feel the mechanism. The sights are a small, precision
built piece of equipment and could be damaged if not handled
correctly. There is no need to use anything other than our
provided tools.
The mechanism is designed to perform the exact job of allowing
movement in only the elevation & windage and to stop any
unwanted movement throughout its life that would result in zero
shift.
DO NOT FORCE ADJUSTMENT in either direction once
resistance is felt, as this will damage the sight and void the
warranty.
Use the Minidial and thread the hex wrench through the center.
This is used to gauge your adjustment.
Elevation:
Turning the elevation screw Clockwise will move the dot DOWN,
this will move the shot (group) UP
Turning the elevation screw Anticlockwise will move the dot
UP, this will move the shot (group) DOWN.
The 1 degree shim is provided to give extra range of elevation
across a wide range of firearms (such as the 1911). Should
you feel any resistance from the mechanism whilst zeroing the
elevation, please fit the shim between the sight and the mount
with the thickest part at the rear.
Windage:
Turning the windage screw Clockwise will move the dot to the
LEFT, this will move the shot (group) to the RIGHT.
Turning the windage screw Anticlockwise will move the dot to
the RIGHT, this will move the shot (group) to the LEFT.
PLEASE NOTE: For the AMS/ AMSc and RMSw, the Windage instructions are opposite to above
What batteries do the sights require?
Please see list below with battery compatibilities:
SMS/SMS2/SMSc – CR2032
RMSc/RMS2/RMSx/RMSw/SIS2 – CR2032
AMS/AMSc – CR2025/ CR2032/ CR2050
RMSd/RMSsc/OMSsc – CR1632

How do I get my slide cut to fit your sight?
If you wish to have your slide cut for the best integration, then we suggest you find a reputable gun smith and use our interface drawings for the relevant sight.
Please email us on info@shieldpsd.com to request our footprint drawings
How long will my sight take to arrive?
On average the sights take less than 14 days to arrive after order placement if shipped internationally. You will receive a tracking number once the item is shipped.
What LED size options do you have?
Each sight offers different LED options ranging from 2MOA, 4MOA, 8MOA, 65/2MOA
For more information, please see our range of sights on our ‘Shop’ page
Multi reticules are available in the AMS and SIS2
How long does the battery last?
The sights use a light reader to adjust brightness automatically to best match your surroundings. If the sight sees an average day and night cycle it should last approximately 2 years on all 2, 4 & 8 MOA mini sights and 1 year in 65/2MOA mini sight and the SIS due to the larger number of LEDs.
To preserve your battery life, we recommend storing in a dark place and using a sight cover. These can also be purchased on our ‘Shop’ page
I have a faulty sight - what do I do?
Please create an account and then visit ‘Support’ tab, then ‘Warranty Service and Repair’. Complete the ‘Return your sight’ section and enter the issue you are having.

Our your sights waterproof?
All of our products are designed to be weather proof and will withstand rain but for a more robust waterproof sight the RMSw, AMS, AMSc and SIS2 are our leading products in this area.
Does the sight withstand recoil?
Yes. The design of the SMS and subsequent models was first tested and brought to market in 1997 and we have years of experience making sights that withstand daily use on a slide.
What is the country of manufacture?
All Shield Sights are proudly made in the United Kingdom.
Should I use Loctite?
We suggest that you use a small drop of Blue Loctite 243 on all mounting screws, this include the screws that hold any mount to the firearms and of course the sight to the mount.
Do I need a license?
Some products offered for sale are subject to license or Home Office Authority. A copy of the customer’s appropriate license or specific authority must be provided prior to goods being sold. If goods are being exported, Shield, where appropriate, will apply for the necessary license from the UK competent authority. In support of this, customers must provide appropriate import and trading licensing paperwork for their country to enable Shield to make the application. An End User Undertaking [EUU] in the format acceptable to the UK issuing authority must also be provided.
I am returning my sight for repair, what do I need to include?
We ask that you remove your sight from your gun and remove the battery. Please return only your sight to us and ensure it is safely packaged.
Please Note: We are unable to accept parcels that contain slides and batteries
How long does the Warranty process take?
We endeavour to complete all Warranty repairs within 4-6 weeks from you sending your sight back to us in the UK to you receiving it back
Can I buy a new cover?
Yes you can, you will find it in the accessories section of our online shop.
Can I buy replacement screws?
Yes you can, you will find them in the accessories section of our online shop under Mini sight Mounting Screws
Will your sight fit an RMR cut slide (or other sight footprint)?
No, unfortunately not. We have a unique footprint, but because our footprint is the smallest we are able to make adapter plates to fit slide or mounts prepared for other red dots. You will find these adapter plates here.
How do I remove my mounting screws?
With all Loctite it is suggested to warm the screw where possible so that you can loosen the hold the Loctite has on the screw. Due to the small size of the screws it can be easy to strip the heads, so great care should be taken to ensure a good purchase when locating the allen wrench in the screw head.
How do I use the shim/get more elevation?
The 1 degree shim is required if you find that there is not enough travel on the elevation up or down when trying to zero. Normally, there isn’t enough travel down so you would place the thick part of the shim at the rear of the sight and tip the sight down. You will then likely need to use the shorter of the screws to mount it down.
The LED has come out of my sight whilst trying to adjust the elevation. What can I do?
Oops! We can only guess that you have over-adjusted the elevation screw whilst the sight was off the gun or mount. Unfortunately, you will need to get the sight and parts back to Shield for them to rebuild the sight for you. Please follow the warranty process to do this.
